I met Hillary a few weeks ago when she sent me this message:
“Denise, I have been following your paintings and you are such a fantastic artist. I saw the picture for Day 55 with Mary and Jesus. I was wondering if you sell any of these. My 3 year old son passed away a few months ago and this painting tugged at my heart. Beautiful work.”
The painting in question was already sold, but I’m in the process of creating a similar one for her. Hillary later sent my a link to her blog which tells the story of her Benjamin. She also sent a beautiful, shadowy photograph of her and her son.
Lately, I’ve been working on color,so, artistically, this dark photo was difficult for me to reference in today’s painting. But far more difficult was imagining a world without my own almost-three year old.
Since I started painting full time I’ve met a lot of people and heard a lot of stories. Hillary’s is one that stays with me.
