I have painted countless blue herons. Usually I am interested in smoothing out the textures created with the palette knife. This time I was more interested in leaving the strokes chunky on the image and smoother in the background. The result, I think, is bold. My strokes look strong and intentional which are exactly the words I would use to describe the heron itself.
