“Abundance” 6×6 in oil on canvas, framed
How interesting it is that we usually think of abundance only in terms of how big or small our home is, what kind of car we drive, how much we’ve saved for the kids to go to college. When I zoom out, I can see that even if I lived in the world’s largest mansion, it would be itty bitty compared to the mountain range it might overlook. So for today, the almost last day in this month, may the impartial abundance that is your birthright, find you.
Abundance
When each day crawls
out of its own darkness
With orange and purple sighs
When dew hangs perfectly
round on a blade of grass
And we give names to birds
With words like
Great, splendid, lilac-breasted,
Red-crowned
When green appears suddenly
from a crack in the pavement
Or the orchid you forgot to water
Decides to bloom anyway
And what you once thought
Gives way to something more true,
More beautiful, more whole
Abundance calls in the throaty bark
Of the heron overhead
Over and over announcing
Your place in all
This plentitude
