Walk on Water II is the third painting in an unexpected little series that began with Audacity and continued with Walk on Water—three paintings created over three years without ever intending to make a series.
A woman walks across the surface of the water while an egret leads the way ahead. The painting is built almost entirely from isolated strokes of the palette knife, with cracks and spaces between them revealing the pink wash beneath. What initially feels fragmented comes together from a distance, creating a landscape that feels both uncertain and surprisingly sturdy.
For Denise, the painting became a meditation on faith and doubt—and on the strange way ideas sometimes reveal themselves only after we’ve been following them for a while.
Walk on Water II is an original oil painting and the beginning of a new exploration of water, uncertainty, and the courage to keep going before we know exactly where we’re headed.
