When I started this project I think I thought that by the time it was finished I would not only have thirty paintings that went with thirty poems, but that by the very last day I would have written a poem myself. Spoiler alert: I didn’t.
And today was such a struggle that the only thing I could bare painting was this fairy wren. I half-heartedly tried to find a poem to go with it after the fact but it felt so silly I soon abandoned the search.
Despite my frustration and my joy that these thirty days are over, I really have loved the idea of abstract art based on poems, and I think it just might be something I explore for a bit longer. Perhaps for the whole year. But what I won’t be doing is completing one every day. I want to let them simmer. I want to really read the poems without being quite so frantic to get them onto the canvas.
In other words, I have high hopes for 2016. And you know what they say about hope…
