“Little Things” 4×4, oil on canvas[creativ_button url=”https://denisehopkinsfineart.com/product/little-things-4×4-oil-canvas/” icon=”” label=”Buy Now” colour=”blue” colour_custom=”” size=”medium” edge=”straight” target=”_self”]
Day 11 and I’m trying to appreciate the little things on this roller coaster of emotions that is 31 paintings in 31 days. I am currently visiting my ninety-one year old grandmother who is sharp as a tack and who will ooh and ah over the simplest of comforts. This morning I made us an egg scramble with bell peppers, spinach, and cheese, and if you’d have heard her rave you might as well have thought I’d taken her to Commander’s Palace. She says things like “raise your arm again, when you do that I can really tell you’ve been lifting weights,” you’ve always been such a good cooK” and “Ezra is just so smart, isn’t he?”
May this hummingbird remind us (ahem, me) to see the beauty in the small things. I have been amazed lately at how one negative comment can undo a thousand positive ones. But lucky for me I just have to imagine what my grandmother would say to me, and all is right with the world again.
I’m not sure I can fit any more cliches into this short post so that will have to be all for today. See you on day 12.
***Reminder– all paintings this month are 20% off the day they are posted. Don’t own any original art? A 4×4 is an affordable and easy way to start!

Such a blessing to have your grandmother, and especially having her mentally sharp. A gift. I still imagine what my grandma would say or think about things, and she’s been gone 5 years, but alive in my heart!
I distinctly remember being a kid and learning that not all grandma’s were nice. It was shocking. I’m so glad you had a good one too.
Wonderful story!!!
