“Halved” 6×6, oil on canvas $135.00
I had this half of an oversized avocado sitting in a tupperware in my fridge. I had eaten the other half a couple days before. I’m not sure why, but it called to me.
I’ve not done many still lifes before. My setup may have been laughable– the avocado on a paper towel resting against my propped up ipad with the phone flashlight shining on it. But working from life like this rather than photos was good for my soul. The colors in that avocado! The colors I never really notice. The little threads that make up the flesh. The purple shadows.
I think this painting is silly in the most delightful way. It’s a don’t-take-yourself-too-seriously painting at the almost halfway point. This was the first painting this month that I didn’t do two canvases at once. This half has no other half, at least not yet. Funny that it would be the only one to stand alone.
