“Complimentary” 4×4, oil on canvas [creativ_button url=”https://denisehopkinsfineart.com/product/complimentary-4×4-oil-canvas/” icon=”” label=”Buy Now” colour=”blue” colour_custom=”” size=”medium” edge=”straight” target=”_self”]
I can’t get that cow painting I was talking about yesterday just right just yet. So for day 26, I’ve got this tiny little splendid fairywren painting (that’s really the name of the bird and not just me complimenting myself).
Speaking of compliments, in terms of color, I’m a little obsessed with them. Complimentary colors are opposite each other on the color wheel. Sports teams are often a gaudy example of this– think Minnesota Vikings (or LSU tigers, as I prefer) or the Florida Gators. But when you take a less extreme version of one color and pair it with its compliment, you get a nice pop. That’s what I was going for in this blue/orange painting. I use compliments in most of my paintings but this one might be the most overt example.
Okay, back to ruminating on that cow painting.

Orange is legit my favorite color. I’m really digging how the different shades of orange in this composition give that little splendid fairywren depth and draw it out of the canvas.
