Day 52. Taking Breaks

Peacock painting by Denise Hopkins

I’m still working on my musician series and have a couple that are almost ready to go. I just can’t seem to get the last touches right. That’s when I pulled out this peacock painting that I’d never got around to finishing. I must have started it over six months ago. It was a much needed break.

It was a brush painting originally, but I took the palette knife to it. Whereas I am usually interested in blurred edges, backgrounds that are nearly indistinguishable from the foreground, on this one, I created sharp lines and boundaries. I think it gives it a boldness some of my other, softer bird paintings don’t have.
