Rest Series | Four 6×6 Oil Paintings by Denise Hopkins

This collection of four 6×6 oil paintings explores the relationship between rest, trust, and creativity. Inspired by psychologist and writer Nicola Jane Hobbs’ question, “Have I rested enough to do my most loving, meaningful work?”, the paintings feature women reclining in peaceful landscapes alongside birds and a small boat, drawing subtle inspiration from the biblical image of Jesus asleep in the boat during the storm. Rich palette knife textures and vibrant color create a visual meditation on rest as the foundation—not the reward—of meaningful work.
