“The Family of Things”
From the Take Flight Series
A woman pedals a bicycle as a flock of Roseate Spoonbills keeps pace in the sky above. There’s an ease to the moment, a sense that earth, air, figure, and birds are moving together. “The Family of Things” is about being part of all that is around us, the quiet freedom of being most alive when we let ourselves be carried along. This piece, like so many of my paintings gives a nod to Mary Oliver’s poem “Wild Geese” which ends with an image of geese “high in the clean blue air” who are “heading home again,” their call an announcement of your place in “the family of things”
