“Meanwhile the World Goes On”
From the Take Flight Series
Like “Family of Things,” this piece gets its title from Mary Oliver’s poem “Wild Geese”. In my version, the geese have become Roseate Spoonbills. The figure on the bicycle is not riding so much as to escape but to be a part of the world in which she finds herself. Like the spoonbills, she is on the move with the wind. The circles of the tires of the bike are a reminder of the world going on– and the figure is part of all of it.
