Day 28. Waiting on orchids.

If you’d looked at my high school drawings, you’d have seen a lot of ballpoint pen eyes. So. Many. Eyeballs. 

My Aunt Catherine taught me to draw by teaching me the structure of the human face, and I could run my pencil over the crease of an eyelid for hours and not get bored. 

Funny that now I just take ‘em right on out of the whole design of the face. I just say “no thanks” to the only thing I wanted to draw in the beginning of all this. 

We’re coming to the end of the 31 days. I can see the finish line, still a little in the distance, but it’s there, and I’m ready for it.

I’ve written about my orchids before. I’ve got two of them and their blooms come back every winter and now, day 28, one of them has a few big buds I’m hoping are going to open before day 31. Or on day 31. Wouldn’t that be something? 

But for now, here’s an oil on paper sketch of those buds, this eye-less face, these tiny hopes. 

February 4th, ya’ll. Blooms or no, we’ll be celebrating the 31 at the gallery with wine, live music, and guest artists.
