I loved the palette knife portrait process so much that I decided to do it again, and the good news is I think I’m getting better at it. This was another photo sent to me via my Facebook request. I was struck by this little guy’s expression and the tilt of his head. On my first attempt at palette knife portrait (day 11), I did an underpainting first with a brush then went on top with the palette knife. Today, I started with the palette knife and used a small brush at the end, mostly on the eyes.
I’m going to keep experimenting on these types of portraits, which is why you may notice a price difference on these. The price for the 10x10s is what I usually charge for a 6×6. I think I’ll give it a few more practice rounds before I bump it back up to my normal 10×10 price–(125.00). And I’m adding a time lapse video of this process to my to-do list for the month.
Many thanks to Ashley Hennegan for sending in the great reference photo. Ashley, feel free to tell me a little about this precious guy, and I’ll update this blog post 🙂
