Day 26. Reaching for a Nap.

I’m working on some other paintings right now but the final touches are not coming as easily as I hoped, and rather than overwork a painting in frustration, I’ve settled for a day 26 hummingbird. Tiny birds need tiny canvases.

I’ve got that Robert Browning quote running around in my head– “Ah, but a man’s reach should exceed his grasp, Or what’s a heaven for?” And I get it, but sometimes taking a break from that ambitious reach and settling into what can be easily grasped– there’s magic in that too.

This month I’ve talked a lot about having trouble slowing down, so I thought a hummingbird at rest from his frantic wing flapping was appropriate. And in this same spirit, I think I’m going to indulge myself in a day 26 nap. See you (hopefully refreshed) on day 27.

  1. I love seeing all the strokes in this one. Forgive my ignorance since I’m not a painter, but am I seeing pallet knife work up close?

I hope that nap refreshed you! I know we could all use one. Only 6 more days to go!

    1. No palette knife in this one, just brush strokes. I haven’t quite figured out how to use the knife on tiny canvases. AH! 6 days– nothing and yet and eternity too.
