I picked up for my next read The Murmur of Bees not knowing it would be, in no small part, about the devastating influenza of 1918, which was both jarring and comforting.
I am trying not to read the novel too fast. It is hauntingly beautiful, and I don’t want the characters to leave me. Like the bar of dark chocolate sent to me in a care package last week, I’m taking on this novel in little pieces, savoring each morsel.
One of the main characters is Simonopio– a mysterious child found under a bridge as a child and always accompanied by bees that protect and guide him.
A friend recently requested a bee painting. I plan to do a bigger one for her, but this is my warm up on a tiny little 4x4 surface. I hope you enjoy it. And if you need a good read and won’t be triggered by descriptions of a pandemic, I whole-heartedly recommend Murmur of Bees.
I’ll be finishing it soon and will need something new. What are you reading? What do you recommend?
