“Storm’s a Comin'” 12×16, oil on canvas $175
Another day, another request– this time for a little spot of Pensacola beach. It’s officially summer, and I’m officially ready to visit a place like this the day after day 100.
In the last week, I’ve developed a new strategy. You can really see it in all the figure studies I’ve been doing lately– I do an underpainting with a brush and then go on top with the palette knife. The process is rewarding for a few reasons. One, I don’t obsess over the underpainting because I know it will have a lot on top and, two, I get the “hard” part over with first so I can just enjoy building color and texture at the end.
This is the first in a series of two like it. I’ll be creating and posting the second one early next week so stay tuned.
