Fly Away

Pelican in Flight

Fly  Away, 6×6 acrylic on canvas $75 SOLD

Years ago, before my pelican obsession, a friend of mine asked me to do a pelican painting for her husband.  She said he loved pelicans in flight. I did the painting, but don’t remember being overly excited about it, and I shudder to think about what it looks like.  Because that was before my pelican obsession.  Before I’d painted them one hundred times.  I’m still trying to understand what I love about them.  But her husband was right, there is something magical about one in flight, particularly when I am driving the causeway and one accompanies me for a spell, or, even better, flies right at me and our paths cross.

  1. Ms. Hopkins, this particular pelican painting has captured my heart in a way I cannot even describe. I adore it beyond words. Thank you for sharing your talent in such a gorgeous way.

    1. Thanks, Erica! It’s my favorite too. Just one of the rare paintings that happened almost effortlessly– a fast, free painting I didn’t revisit again and again as is my normal method.
