I love pelicans in flight, their graceful navigation of skies often culminating in a nosedive marked by tenacious precision. But the still pelican is potential. Power and grace not yet unleashed. The still pelican is possibility.
When I lived in New Orleans, I’d drive down bayou St. John waiting for the pelicans I believed good omens. They were usually flying, diving, eating. I rarely saw one in stillness. Painting this one reminds me of the potential of stillness, the beauty of possibility.
